FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Linens
1. Why are the actual dimensions of the table linens slightly different from
the dimensions stated on the label?
a. Our artisans will always exercise great care and effort to ensure consistency
of the dimensions of each piece of linen but every piece of cotton or linen
is painstakingly hand cut (never machine cut), therefore not every piece will
have the same exact dimensions.
b. Starching will sometimes affect the dimensions of the linen. After washing,
the linen should return to its original dimensions. Our recommendation is not
to starch the linen if it is intended for personal use. Linen will lay better
without starch.
2. Why is the stitching of the embroidery items not consistent?
a. Inconsistencies in stitching are due to the fact that each and every piece
is completely and painstakingly hand crafted and manually processed. Starting
with the cutting of the fabric, washing and embroidery, followed by a second
washing, inspection, final finishing and touch up stitching. Ever piece is
then starched, ironed and finally pack for shipment.
3. How do I get the
creases out of the linen when I lay them on my table.
a. Our linens are starched and ironed before packaging. It is an old
caterer's trick to wet the linen lightly using clean or distilled water in
a spray bottle before laying it on the table. The water will soften the
starch and the weight of it will cause the linen to "sit" better
and allow it to take the shape of the table when it gradually dries. To protect
your furniture, it may be advisable to lay a sheet of plastic on the table
before placing the damp linen. The plastic sheet may be removed once
the linen is dry. Washing the linen before use also removes the starch and
softens the linen more.
4. Can you do
custom embroidery and/or custom work?
a. Yes we can and often do specialty motifs for hotels
and corporations that require linens and gifts with their
identity embroidered. Please check with us regarding
turn around time and pricing. We also accept commissions
to create embroidered and framed pieces based on
original art or photographs. Visit our store to see some
stunning examples of this kind of work.
Accessories
1. I saw
a bag at your store once but now I can't find it anymore.
Is
the
item
discontinued?
a. It is very possible. Most of our accessories like jewelry
and scarves, shawls and handbags are made in very limited
production
runs. Since they are all individually handmade, these
quantities are often as low as 6 pcs of any given style
and size (and usually one of a kind, in the case of jewelry
and framed artwork). Once an item is sold out we do not make
any more
of
it. The bright side is that if you buy one of our accessories,
there's
only
a
very
slim
chance
that
you'll
see another one just like it!
